The old drive was also a WD and it performed very well. At one point, it successfully restored my entire MacBook Pro because the internal drive had died. When it came time to get a new one, it made sense to get the same brand with a much larger storage. It was easy to add this new drive since it uses USB. Unexpectedly, it was possible with TimeMachine to still have both drives operational. I keep the older one since it has backups going back further in time.
It is worth getting the larger size since it always helps to have more free space for backups. It typically is much faster and cheaper to backup locally than to the cloud. I respect the brand and it seems they have done a great job with the new drive.
Also worth noting that you can use any extra space for other purposes (like storing photos).
